This 2nd Grade Word Problems- OA Addition and Subtraction pack is a Short Answer resource to use when teaching Operations and Algebraic Thinking! There are short answer questions for topics such as word problems, subtraction fluency, addition fluency, and more! This is perfect to use when teaching students how to answer constructed response questions.

In this pack, you are able to choose the format that you would like to use for your students. You can either print the pages of as traditional worksheets to put into a folder or a binder. Or you could print the strips off for an interactive notebook.

*There is now a digital component included in this resource. The word problem worksheets are now created in Google Slides.

There is also a problem solving strategy page at the beginning. One is a poster to print and keep in your classroom. The other are small bookmarks for students to hold onto while they are learning.

This item aligns to the Common Core standards for the Operations and Algebraic Thinking domain, but you don’t have to be a Common Core classroom to use this pack!

CCSS.Math.Content.2.OA.A.1 (2.OA.1)
Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.1
Add and subtract within 20.

CCSS.Math.Content.2.OA.B.2 (2.OA.2)
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.2 By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Work with equal groups of objects to gain foundations for multiplication.

CCSS.Math.Content.2.OA.C.3 (2.OA.3)
Determine whether a group of objects (up to 20) has an odd or even number of members, e.g., by pairing objects or counting them by 2s; write an equation to express an even number as a sum of two equal addends.

CCSS.Math.Content.2.OA.C.4 (2.OA.4)
Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.
