Holidays Around the World Reading Passages

These Holidays Around the World reading passages introduce students to how holidays are celebrated in different countries. This is an add-on pack for my full unit for Holidays Around the World. It can be used by itself, though! Ten different countries that celebrate Christmas plus Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Diwali are included. There is one passage page, plus one follow-up comprehension page.

*This resource now includes a digital component. The passages have been digitally reformatted and converted, and they are now available in Google Slides. The link to the Google Slides document is on page 4 of the PDF.

There are ten countries and 3 non-Christmas holidays included.

  • America
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • England
  • France
  • Germany
  • Mexico
  • The Netherlands
  • The Philippines
  • Sweden
  • Hanukkah
  • Kwanzaa
  • Diwali

Each country or holiday gets a 1-page passage with pictures to represent the holiday, followed up with a page for questions (3 text-based questions and 2 fact writing lines).

I am adding these Holidays Around the World Reading Passages to my store to accompany this full unit. Check out the FULL unit here!

Reading ranges for these would be a whole-group read in first grade and an independent read in second grade and third grade.
