The 2nd Grade Reading Foundational Skills Bundle uses foundational skills which are basic skills that help solidify students’ knowledge and understanding of print. There are two clusters within this second grade bundle: Phonics and Word Recognition and Fluency. In the two clusters, you will find standards-based resources to help students understand phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, and other phonics skills.
Updates- Please read: This resource is part of a big 2021 RF update. New lesson plans have been added to each of the RF units and the activities have alos been expanded. The RF2.3 bundles have been split up into individual standards units.

Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words.
Know spelling-sound correspondences for additional common vowel teams.
Decode regularly spelled two-syllable words with long vowels.
Decode words with common prefixes and suffixes.
Identify words with inconsistent but common spelling-sound correspondences.
Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.
Read grade-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings.
Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary.
