Objective:
Build the tallest free-standing structure made out of spaghetti, tape, and string with a marshmallow at the top! Students must build their STEM Lab spaghetti skyscrapers in 18 minutes!
Materials:
- 20 pieces of spaghetti
- String
- Marshmallow
- A long piece of masking tape
- Scissors
Here We Go, Off to Making our STEM Lab Spaghetti Skyscrapers!
First, they’re getting their hands on the materials…
Next, is figuring out what to do with all of them.
Then, piecing it all together and working it out.
Group 1:
It’s hard to see in this picture, but here is their structure. It’s leaning quite a bit so it just looks like an arch.
Group 2:
And here is the final tower!
Group 3:
Again, it’s hard to see… but here is their structure. This one almost looks like a little giraffe.
Group 4:
I’m not sure why, but this group of boys just wanted to cut everything up in small pieces!
It’s not our tallest structure, but HEY! It was a successful free-standing structure so perhaps they had the right idea after all.
