This is my first year of teaching time. Teaching Kindergarten, I was never allowed to really teach time, so being my first year in 2nd grade, this is something new. It is tough getting the :05 minutes to stick in their heads! Practice, practice, practice. It is very draining! But the kids love it, they are asking what time we are going to do everything so they can see how far away it is. Here are some clocks and telling time ideas your students will enjoy.

I found two pins on Pinterest I did in my classroom, and my kids LOVED them!
This is the original pin I found on Pinterest: you can find it in my math board. Put a hula hoop up on the board and have students write the hands.
Suggestions:
Use two hula hoops and have board races.
Use two different colored markers for the minute and hour hand!
This is also the original pin from Pinterest, not my own craft, find it here! Use a cut-up sentence strip, glue, paper plate, and a brad. When you fold the sentence strip cut-out in half, you’ll put the clock number on the front, and the minute that is represented under.
Math Unit
Here is a look at the math unit I’m using when teaching time, too. It comes with posters, mini books, centers, worksheets, and interactive notebook activities.
The posters and mini books that are included help the students learn about telling time to the hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, and 5-minute increments. The posters also help students remember the hour hand, minute hand, and A.M./P.M.
